Jet-Powered Drones in the Russia-Ukraine War

Throughout the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, drones have been used by both sides as a cheap and effective weapon. But recently, Russia has rapidly increased the number of jet-powered drones it uses. These new jet-powered drones can fly about three times faster than propeller models at 370 mph. The drones can also fly farther and higher than previously used models. These new drones therefore require the use of expensive surface-to-air missiles or fighter jets to shoot them down. Ukraine detected 1,500 jet drones in July and 3,000 in August.


These new drones are certainly a fascinating innovation, given the significant increase in capabilities while being harder to take down. The Russia-Ukraine War has already been the first large-scale example of how drones can be used in war, and it seems to have led to a stalemate. We will have to see how these new drones will affect future wars and conflicts.
