Amazon's Prime Air Plans to Expand to 500 Cities

By the end of 2026, Amazon is planning to bring its drone delivery service to over 500 cities in the US. The service allows millions of items, including groceries and other everyday items, to be delivered in as little as 30 minutes. Prime Air currently has "thousands" of deliveries per day in Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas. Amazon plans to expand Prime Air to Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Idaho, and New York. The drones can deliver most items under five pounds that fit in a shoebox. Amazon states that more than 60% of frequently purchased items are eligible for Prime Air delivery. Delivery costs $2.99 for orders under $50 and $4.99 without Amazon Prime. Amazon uses an FAA Part 135 certification to operate its drones, which is the same as commercial air carriers. While drone delivery will allow for ultra-fast deliveries, we will have to see whether privacy issues, new regulations, or noise/wind issues arise in residential areas. Still, I am excited to see drones available to more Americans soon!
