More Than 700 Drones Seized During World Cup

During and before this year's World Cup, I've covered the numerous steps and warnings the US government issued to ensure everyone's safety for the events. Now that the event is over, we know that through about 250 temporary flight restrictions covering all places (hotels, stadiums, etc.) related to the matches, the FBI and DHS seized more than 700 drones in all eleven US host cities. These efforts were taken to protect the safety of players and fans alike, and came after numerous warnings by officials not to bring drones to any of the matches and events.

This success in ensuring safety in relation to drones during a major world event is a great sign for the future, as the 2028 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles. The World Cup was the first major event to take place in the United States after major legislation was signed in 2025 related to drones, including a provision of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, where $500 million was allotted to support counter-drone efforts.
