San Mateo, CA based drone company Skydio recently announced a $3.5 billion investment in US based manufacturing. This plan is expected to create 2,000 jobs with Skydio alone, and even more in other US based positions. Skydio's investment comes as most drones in the US come from Chinese companies and parts, and the federal government has tried to put a stop to that. Skydio supplies drones to every branch of the military and 29 allied nations as well. Also, the WSJ reported that the Chinese government banned Skydio in October from using Chinese batteries in their drones. So, I believe Skydio investing in US drone manufacturing is a necessary move. As Chinese drones face more restrictions in the US, Skydio is stepping up to the plate to fill that void.
