A White House Task Force recently met with World Cup leaders to discuss drones and security ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by 11 North American cities. This meeting included discussions regarding preventing unauthorized drone use, as well as counter aircraft systems for unauthorized UAVs. I believe this meeting is both necessary, and a deterrent to people who are or may plan to do harm, or just anyone trying to use drones near the stadiums, even if it is just for photography. In recent years, police have utilized drones with cameras at large gatherings and sporting events in order to monitor crowds and look for illegal activity. I will definitely keep an eye out for further updates on this topic and report back, as the World Cup is the largest sporting event in the world.
