The FAA just announced a new program aimed at speeding up how certain drone violations are handled. This comes as drone activity continues to increase across the country.

The Drone Expedited and Targeted Enforcement Response (DETER) program, is the initiative designed to resolve minor violations faster, while still putting safety first. It supports a larger push for enforcement of drone laws, especially as concerns about safety and security continue to increase.

With DETER, first-time offenders may be able to settle cases faster by accepting reduced penalties or shorter suspensions. However, they must admit responsibility and give up the right to appeal. Also, the program includes improved coordination with law enforcement, allowing real-time reporting of violations.

The timing is also significant, with the FAA planning to focus enforcement around major events like the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches this summer being hosted across the nation. However, serious violations will still face standard, stricter enforcement.

Overall, the DETER program represents another great move by the FAA to secure the airspace ahead of events that will draw many tourists and eyes from across the globe.
